As the daughter of Stanley Willard Henson, Jr an ophthalmologist and Thelma Burnell Henson, Michele Carey whose birth name is Michele Lee Henson was born on February 26, 1942, at Annapolis, Maryland in the United States of America. She was a piano prodigy in her teens and won the national competition in the Chicago Music Festival at just 13 years old. Her family settled in Fort Collins in Colorado, and she completed her secondary schooling in Fort Collins High School in 1960.
